Strathpine

A second bathroom, a laundry and a walk-in robe carved out of a two-storey house so a family of five could stop queueing for one shower.

Two-storey renovation in Strathpine

The owners have three children under five, including twins. One bathroom between five people is not a design problem, it is a morning problem — and the house had the floor area to solve it, just not in the right shape.

Downstairs we partitioned a six-and-a-half metre room into a second bathroom, a laundry with a tub and real bench space, and a storage run — then opened up a bedroom wall for a walk-in robe behind triple mirrored sliders, and took out the hallway cupboard that was making the landing feel like a corridor.

Upstairs got the same treatment in a tighter footprint: a curbless shower behind a single glass screen, a wall-hung vanity, an arched mirror and VJ panelling to tie the two levels together. New floor tiling runs through the walkway so the additions read as original to the house rather than bolted on.
